Joseph and Jane lived on the old homestead of his father's, Christian Platter, near Bainbridge all his life.
They were a very genial hospitable couple, living in quiet ease and contentment into their older years.
Together they had four children but only one lived out of infancy, that being Charles C Platter. But he too died at a young age of 18 during the Civil War.

James H Platter died in infancy
