Vernest Fredrick Windley served in the United States Army during World War I. He enlisted in 1918 at the age of 22. He was honorably discharged on 12 July 1919. His rank was Corporal, Company B, 11th Infantry.

FUNERAL SERVICES AT SECOND WARD
Funeral services were conducted at 12:30 Sunday morning from the Second Ward Chapel for Vernest Frederick Windley, 38, who died Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital following a major operation. Interment was in the Garden City Cemetery under the direction of the Williams mortuary, with military honors given by the American Legion.
Mr. Windley was born May 25, 1896, at St. Charles, Idaho and spent most of his life in Bear Lake County except for the time served with the colors during the World War.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma Windley; three children and two brothers, R.G. Windley, Ogden and Ray Windley, Garden City.
