On November 9, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan, the God of infinite comprehension blew the breath of life into James Horace Betty and he became a dynamic living soul, born to the late James and Evelyn Betty.

James received his education from the Detroit Public School system where he attended Northwestern High School.

While working at E L Rice & Company, he met the love of his life, Terry Danise and was united In marriage on July 17, 1971. They had three loving and devoted daughters: Nicole Jacqueline, Tamara Eve and Jamie Jean (Craig Muhammed). He was a loving husband, father and friend (who had a sense of humor like no other) James worked hard and enjoyed life and family. He was a devoted employee of Daimler Chrysler for thirty-three years, and a dedicated Union President of Local 140 from 2000-2005. During his tenure as union President, he became the first Local 140 president to have three production shifts and three products at the Chrysler, Warren Truck Assembly Plant He also had the distinct honor to be the first Local 140 President to nominate an International UAW officer at a UAW Convention when he nominated Nate Gooden as UAW Vice President at the 2002, 33rd UAW Constitutional Convention.
He began his love of golf at the young age of ten Many can attest to his superior golf skills, achieving a seven handicap golfers understand) in his prime. He was not only an excellent golfer, but also a great bowler; competing In many tournaments, and a member of many leagues.

He was a gentle, "cool", generous, classy and loving man He would give you his last, without a single question asked, a man of his words.
On Thursday, April 22, 2010, God called James to come home after a year long illness. He will remain in our hearts forever. He joined his father, James A Betty; and mother, Evelyn Betty.

In celebration of his home going, James leaves to cherish in his memory: his loving wife, Terry, three children Nicole Jacqueline, Tamara Eve and Jamie Jeahn (Craig Muhammad) grandchildren: Armani Betty, Kedall Puckett and Noah Muhammad, brothers and sisters Patricia Lindsay (John Lindsay), Alice Harris Gregory Betty (Terrilyn Betty), Michael Betty (Denise Betty) and Cynthia Johnson, four aunts JoAnn Girteria, Barbara Ridley (Walter Ridley), Deborah Thompson and Deborah Brandon; two uncles, Allan Brandon (Tina Brandon) and Lawrence Goodman, two sisters-in-law Gloria Hammond (Henry Hammond) and Gwen Harris (Johnny Harris), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
