Ludowici - Joseph R. Chestnutt, 80, died Tuesday at Wayne County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. A life long resident of Long County, he was a Baptist and was retired from Atlantic Coastline Railroad. He was a member of Altamaha Masonic Lodge No. 257, the American Legion and the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virdal Sharpe Chestnutt of Ludowici, a son, Joseph D. Chestnutt of Ludowici, a sister, Mrs. Mary C. Sharpe of Savannah, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday at Concord Cemetery in Ludowici. Nesmith-Harrison Funeral Home in Jesup is in charge.
