Sarah was the second in a family of four known children in the first marriage of Thomas Parsons. Her brother and sisters were: Henrietta Clay Parsons-Trimble (1852-1913), Mollie May Parsons (1859-1861), and Jesse Nelson Parsons (1861-1900). Sarah also had half brothers and sisters from her father's second marriage to Matilda Fizer.
On May 7, 1874, in Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County, Kentucky, Sarah married Dr. Andrew L. McIntire, born in Kentucky (1850-1920). Andrew was a son of Nicholas McIntire (1802-1859) and Eliza D. Sims (1802-1892), both born in Kentucky.
Andrew and Sarah had four children - three sons and one daughter: Dr. Wilburn Oliver McIntire (1876-1942), Dr. James Roy McIntire (1880-1914), and Elsa "Elsie" Clay McIntire-Metcalfe (1885-1968) and Thomas Julian McIntire (1891-1898).
After Andrew died in 1920, Sarah remained living in Carlisle with her daughter and son-in-law residing with her.
Both Sarah and Andrew are buried in the Carlisle Cemetery.
