Richard Freeman 1917-2007
Richard Beatty Freeman, 89, died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Westminster Health & Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill,S.C.
Born Sept. 5, 1917, in Stan- ford, Ky., Richard graduated from Stanford High School in 1934 where he lettered in football, was a member of the debate team, and a state officer of FFA. He was retired from Reynolds Metal Co. in Louisville, Ky. He was a member of Charleston Road Bapitist Church where he served as a deacon and was instrumental in church planting and missions. The Freemans moved to Rock Hill, S.C., in 1994.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice Smithers Freeman; his parents, Dora Lee Hester and Joseph Anderson Freeman; his brother, J. Lee Freeman; and a sister, Sarah Freeman Hanson. Richard is survived by daughters, Sylvia Juanell Freeman (Sanford "Sandy") Woford of Matthews, N.C., and Nancye Lee Freeman (Grant) Gehlbach of Rock Hill, S.C.; and son, Richard (Penny) Freeman of Richmond, Ind., and Fort Myers, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by sisters, Virgie Freeman (William) Hiies of Lexington, Ky., and Josephine Freeman (Charles) McEuen of Maysville, Ky.; and a brother, Eugene (Rowena) Freeman of Lexington, Ky.
A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, in the Westminster Hall Chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill with Drs. Shelton Sanford and Jack Basie officiating.
The family will receive friends in the parlor after the service. Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. today, May 22, at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home.
A service also will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, Ky., with the Rev. Wayne Gul-lion officiating. Burial will fol-. low at Bellevue Cemetery in the family plot.
Visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
