John A. Torza, Sr., 78, of East Hartford, loving husband of Rose (Catania) Torza, entered into eternal life on Friday, (January 26, 2001) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Hartford, a son of the late Giacomo and Filomena (Filosa) Torza, he had resided in East Hartford, for the past 42 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on the USS, Tolland, as a radioman 3rd Class. He was a member of the VFW Post #2083, East Hartford, and the Eagles Club, Hartford. He was a communicant of St. Rose Church, East Hartford, for many years. Prior to his retirement he was employed by B.F. Goodrich tires for over 25 years as a Regional Sales Manager. Besides his beloved wife of 59 years, Mr. Torza is survived by a daughter, Philomenia T. Pappa of South Glastonbury; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John A. and Susan Torza of Oakdale, CA, Joseph D. Torza, Sr., of East Hartford; a sister, Angeline Catania of Rocky Hill; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Entombment with full Military Honors will be at Mount Saint Benedict Mausoleum, Bloomfield.
