Donna was born into a musical family. Her father was Robert E. Wood, a radio singer in the 1920's with his wife Gertrude Anderson-Wood. Donna is perhaps best remembered for her group " Donna and Her Don Juans ", who were the featured vocal group with the Horace Heidt Orchestra in the early 1940's. Gloria Wood, Donna's sister, for a short period of time, was also a featured singer in Heidt's Orchestra, sharing the stage with her sister, Donna. Later, both Wood sisters joined up with Kay Kyser's Orchestra, where Gloria would find some of her first success' as a singer.
" The Don Juans " consisted of George Jackson, Eddie James and Jimmy O'Brien. Other group members included, Art Carney, Gordon McCrae, & Charlie Goodman .
Donna died of a heart ailment, just six days short of her 30th. birthday and with her passing, the group known as Donna & Her Don Juans, faded into history.
A few of the Donna & Her Don Juans recordings with Horace Heidt & His Orchestra were: "I DON'T WANT TO SET THE WORLD ON FIRE", "DELILAH", "WALKIN' AROUND IN CIRCLES", "I WISH I HAD A SWEETHEART" & "THIS IS THE ARMY, MISTER JONES".
Donna Wood was the wife of Lee Hackler, a musical conductor, but of which, little is known about today. They were married in 1943.

Much thanks to Leslie Siegel for some of the biography notes.
