Mrs. Mary A. Rider, widow of Samuel Rider, and one of the oldest residents of Centre county, died at her home, near State College at 5 o'clock last evening. Mrs. Rider was born in the Country of Lancashire, England, February 28, 1821, and came to this country with her parents when she was 12 years old. She resided in Centre county, near the place where she died, during the balance of her long life. She became the wife of Samuel Rider in 1841 and lived with him as a faithful and loving wife until his death, twenty-seven years ago. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. A. R. Love, Denver, Colo; Mrs. Joseph Hull and J. A. C. Rider, of Tyrone; C. W. Rider of Avis, Clinton county; Mrs. C. W. Henderson of Spruce Creek, and Frank Rider, of this city, besides a number of grandchildren.

The venerable lady was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for the notable period of seventy-nine years, having been converted in her childhood. During all these years she lived a consistent Christian life, having set her children a splendid example of upright and cheerful living. She was blessed with so kindly a disposition that she never spoke ill of another and she instructed her children to refrain from speech when they could utter nothing good about others. At the time of her death she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Ross and her neighbors and friends feel that both church and community have sustained a heavy loss.

The funeral services will be held at her late home at 10 o'clock Saturday morning and the interment will be made in Ross cemetery.
