Shelley Y. (Stevens) Jones, 70, a Coraopolis resident most of her life, died Mon., April 26, 2010 at home. Born in Birmingham, AL on July 25, 1939, she was one of 8 children born to Winfred & Evelyn (Horton) Stevens. Beloved wife for 45 years to Roosevelt Jones; mother of Richard Blackson; Jeffrey Blackson; Stephanie Faulkner (Floyd); Roger Jones (Stacey Ann); & special niece like a daughter, Veda Jackson; godchild, Denise Griffin (Steve); sister of Theresa Parrish; Annette Whittlesay; David Stevens (Paulette); Richey Stevens; Maurice 'Huck' Stevens (Brenda); Curtis Stevens and the late Mona Stevens; predeceased by grandson, Kyle Wilson; grandmother of 18 and gr. grandmother of 6. First African American woman to serve on Coraopolis Council, presently in her 3rd term. Graduate of Harty Bible School. Member, Who So Ever Wills Christian Missionary Alliance. She literally began feeding people who had no family and the homeless by preparing Thanksgiving meals from her home. Her outreach continued over 20 years and encompassed meals for her community enlisting her church along with other churches from the Coraopolis area. She was manager for Cornell cafeteria.
