Harry R. Merriner served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.

He was a son of Mary S. Merriner (Grant).

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in September, 1941 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

By October, 1942 he had been assigned to the Marine Scout Bombing Squadron 141, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Fleet Marine Force.

He died in the line of duty on October 9, 1942 in an airplane crash at New Caledonia, Solomon Islands.

He was originally from McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.

He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on November 10, 1947.
