He served our country for three years in the Marine Corps in World War II and two years in the Army Engineers during the Korean War.
He was a graduate of the four-year machinist apprentice training program at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria, Ill. He worked for Caterpillar for 37 years. He retired in 1977 as a division manager at its Mossville, Ill., plant. He also held management positions in planning and manufacturing at the plants in Decatur, East Peoria, Ill., and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Clarence was a member of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers for 23 years, served on the board of directors of Decatur, Ill., Junior Achievement; was a member of the Budget Committee of Decatur, Ill., United Fund; and was past president of Tropical Shores Civic Club of Sarasota, Fla.
Clarence is listed in the 1965 publication of "Leading Men in the United States" for his achievements in manufacturing and business.
He was a member of the Traveler's Century Club, which is an exclusive club limited to persons who have traveled to more than 100 countries and island groups.
Clarence was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Fla., for 32 years, since 1978.
Burial will be in Sarasota Memorial Park.
