John Blake Falkner received an A. B. (Bachelor of Arts) degree from New York University in 1859. He attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia from 1859 through 1861. John Blake Falkner was ordained in 1861. He received an honorary D. D. (Doctor of Divinity) degree from New York University in 1881.
John Blake Falkner was a member of Phi Beta Kappa (academic honor society). He received the Webster Oratory Prize while a student.

The following sermon was preached in Christ Church, Bridgeport, on the Sunday morning following the assassination of the late President; and repeated in the North Congregational Church on the day of his funeral obsequies, by request of a committee of citizens appointed at a meeting called by the Mayor of Bridgeport to make arrangements for the proper observance of that day.

John Blake Falkner was rector of Christ Church, Germantown, Pennsylvania for 27 years. Following his resignation as rector he was rector emeritus at Christ Church. John Blake Falkner was examining chaplain of the Diocese of Pennsylvania in 1872. He was a member of the Philadelphia Academy of Political and Social Science.

In 1901, the services were in charge of the Rev. Samuel Upjohn of Germantown, Pennsylvania, and the Rev John B. Falkner of Germantown, the latter continuing the work during the summers of 1902 to 1905. In 1907, the Rev. Charles Henry Arndt of Germantown conducted the services. The Rev. Arndt continued his ministry at the Chapel for many years, later marrying the daughter of the Rev. Falkner.

The Rev. Dr. Charles Henry Arndt succeeded the Rev. John Blake Falkner as Rector of Christ Church and St. Michael's Church in Germantown, PA. The Rev. Arndt retired in 1933 and died in 1940.
