South Bend -- Harriet A. Mikel, 83, of Kern Road, died at 12:35 a.m. today in Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Mikel was born Jan. 7, 1912, in South Bend.

On April 28, 1935, in South Bend, as Harriet A. Byers, she married David K. Mikel. He survives with a daughter, Sally Davis of Lakeville, two sons, Edward L. and Arthur L., both of South Bend; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Byers of South Bend. She was a member of Centre Township Gleaners Club, United Methodist Women of Southlawn United Methodist Church, Centre Township Ladies Auxiliary and was a volunteer dispatcher for Centre Township Fire Department for 26 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Hanley & Sons Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
