Traugott Jakob Hofer (also known as Jakob Traugott Hofer) was born in Rothrist, Aargau, Switzerland. He is one of four children of Johann Jakob and Elizabeth Weber Hofer. He married Rosina Baer on May 8 1873 in Rothrist. He and his wife emigrated to America along with his parents and three siblings. His parents settled in Utah and Traugott took his family north and settled in Idaho. He was a farmer all of his life.

Him and his family were one of many settler families to settle the city of Blackfoot, Idaho and is known as a pioneer to that area.

Traugott died in 1937 at the age of 84. He is preceded in death by four infant sons, a daughter, and his son August who passed away in 1924.

He is survived by his wife Rosina, and seven children. Also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial is at Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot, Idaho.
