Obituary for Eldon Leon Nightingale taken from Courier Tribune, Seneca, Kansas, Thursday, January 18, 1973
Eldon Leon Nightingale, son of Wanda Steele Nightingale and Virgil Nightingale was born March 17, 1938, two miles north of Corning, and died January 10, 1973 as the result of a tragic accident at the age of 34.
He attended Corning Grade and High Schools graduating in May, 1957. He joined the Navy in March, 1958 and served for five years with an Honorable Discharge in March, 1963.
On June 3, 1967, he was married to Linda Morrison at Centralia, Kansas. To this union was born one son, Bradley David.
Mr. Nightingale had lived all of his life in the Corning Community as a farmer and was also employed as foreman of the Nemaha County Bridge Crew.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, and son, Bradley David, of the home his mother, Wanda Nightingale, his grandmother, Mrs. Edna Steele of Corning, three brothers, Mack and Gale of Corning and Terry of Holton, a sister, Shirleen Morgan of Topeka and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Nightingale on December 26, 1972.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Methodist Church in Corning, Kansas, with Rev. Allen Uthoff officiating. Organ music was played by Mrs. Billie Clem, Mrs. Ethel Fredrickson and Miss Kathy Fredrickson sang "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset" accompanied by Mrs. Minnie Cordon at the piano.
Casket bearers were Clyde Eisenbarth, Bill Schlief, Jerry McLaughlin, George Ronnebum, Elton McLaughlin and Henry Melvin. The Corning American Legion conducted services at the cemetery. Hayes Funeral Home was in charge.
