Mary Wallace NOONAN - Died peacefully February 23, 2005 in Sonoma, CA, at the age of 88. She was born in Santa Ana, CA on May 2, 1916 to John and Atha (Meacham) Wallace. After attending Santa Ana High School and Junior College, Mary graduated from Stanford University in 1938. She then worked at Menlo School and College before serving as on officer in the Navy Waves during WWII. In 1946 she married Stanley Noonan of Sacramento, a professional singer. They first lived in San Francisco and then made their home in Palo Alto for 55 years before moving to Sonoma in 2004. When Mary was young, Santa Ana was a small town, surrounded by orange groves and walnut orchards, many of them planted by her grandfather, a pioneer land developer. Like her parents before her, Mary was a devoted dog person. The family raised and showed Wirehaired Terriers and during her school years her own dog, "Tug," won many first place ribbons at AKC shows in Los Angeles. Tug was sire of the more famous "Asta" of the "Thin Man" movies of the 1930s. Mary loved to learn and considered books and libraries some of life's best gifts. Her forty years of scholarly genealogy research leaves a rich legacy for her family. She was knowledgeable about many subjects, among them gardening, wildlife, health issues, history and current events. She was proud of her Pilgrim roots, Revolutionary War ancestors, her forefathers who homesteaded the Midwest in the 1820's, as well as her Scottish and English heritage. She was a creative and talented artist, especially with her pen and ink drawings. She relished travel beginning with family road-trips to the National Parks in the 1930s and a solo freighter trip through the Panama Canal in 1940. She cherished time spent in Yosemite, the oceanside of Capitola and Pacific Grove, and later in life the Engadine Alps of Switzerland. Mary was a two-time cancer survivor and, in the end, enjoyed good health and joyful days. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her husband's musical career and of her children's and grandchildren's lives. She appreciated the little things in life most of all. Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Stanley J. Noonan; her daughter Carol Klacik (John) of Olympia, WA; her son Tim (Cindy) of Sonoma; her grandchildren Joey Klacik and Timmy, David, John, Heidi and Michael Noonan; sister-in-law, Katherine G. Wallace; niece, Sherry Wallace Oliver and nephew, Gary Wallace, all of the Boise, ID area. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Richard (Jack) Wallace. Many dear relatives and friends preceded her and there are those who remain. She treasured them all. Funeral Services were held on February 25, 2005 at Duggan's Mission Chapel and Veteran's Memorial Park Cemetery in Sonoma, CA.
