Buried in a location called "Schoolmaster's Grave" located at the junction of 5th St. West and Hwy 30 in Rainier (Source of information Tom McCaskey, Rainier, OR, Jan 1992)

Riley Strong (or William Strong) the first schoolmaster in Rainier was buried in 1858 near Smith's service station. (Source: "Rainier Schools" by Lois Kent, 1951, in Rainier History notebook at Rainier City Library.


I came across this birth record, look at the father's name. Perhaps his preference was to be called Riley. Erin talked to the man that owns the place where the location of the grave is (now a tow shop) and he was unaware that it was even there. According to the Oregon Burial Guide there is no marker anymore.
