Father: Frank M. DeRossitt
Mother: Artie Ward
---------------------------------
Franklin was born to a long family line out of Eastern Tennessee who migrated West as did much of America.
His was one of nine known children born to Frank Monroe Derossett (1876-1945) and Artie Pearl Ward (abt 1884-1955). His family settle in Columbia County, Oregon aft 1940's.
The spelling of the family name has evolved over time and has multiple variations (DeRossett, DeRossitt, Derosset, Derossitt, etc).
His Veterans Affairs Grave Marker Application states he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal (BSM) for his service.
He was a Private in Co. L, 318th Inf. Reg, of 80th Division of the US Army.
His unit was formed out of servicemen from mostly Tennessee.
His unit landed at Omaha Beach during WWII and was the spearhead of Patton's Army.
His unit suffered huge loses in many battles to retake Europe in WW II.
They fought across France to the Rhineland and were in the thick of the Battles for the Ardennes.
A short study of the history of the 80th Division and the 318th Infantry is beyond belief for courage and determination.
We can only assume give his length of service, unit assignment, and citation, that he was very likely to have been involved in many of the crucial battles of the 80th Division.
Well done solider.
May you rest in peace!
Wes Bell (a very distant relative).
