Marcus W. Thompson, 89, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at St. Anthony's Healthcare, Lafayette, Indiana.

He was born on July 8, 1920 in Tangier, to Harry A. Thompson and Nancy C. Gilkison Thompson. He married Helen L. Witsman on October 1, 1937 in Tangier. She died March 15, 2008.

Surviving are two sons, Fred L. Thompson and Donald C. Thompson, a daughter, Cathy Bowlin, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Hoy and Howard Thompson and 2 sisters, Fay Kooistra and Reatha Livengood.

He worked as a telegrapher for 33 years for Norfolk & Western Railroad, retiring in 1981. He then became a sheriff's deputy in Sumter County, Florida.
