His obituary read that he was a good and just man and would be missed by many.

It read. We are very sorry to hear of the death of our old neighbor B.D. Scaman, who passed away Sunday morning at Fort Lyon. Mr. Scaman had lived on his ranch north of the canal for many years and had made friends everywhere by his kindly way. He had been falling in health all fall and gradually grew weaker until the end came Sunday morning. The funeral was held from the Powell Undertaking Parlors Monday afternoon. The pallbearers were all his old friends. Jim Kirkpatrick, Tom Lily, William Richard, W.R. Mereness, J.L. Thompson and J.B. Wright. We extend our deepest sympathy to his daughter Mrs. Blair (Eliza Scaman) and other relatives.

Benjamin became a citizen of the United States of America on Nov. 11, l895 in the County of Baeu, Springfield, CO.
