Cisco community resident Mary Avis Newsom, 74, passed away Jan. 9, 2002 at Wadley Hospital, Texarkana, Texas. She was born Sep. 22, 1927, in the Cisco community near Idabel. She was the daughter of Dan and Elsie Pauley, and had lived all of her life in the Cisco community.
Mary Pauley and Harvey "Jack" Newsom were married June 28, 1942. Among the many things Mary had done in her lifetime, two were owner and operator of the Cisco Grocery Store and being a Forest Grove school bus driver. She mostly loved her 'job' as wife, homemaker and mother to her four children. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and friend to many. Mary was also a gardener, seamstress and craft maker. She loved to attend craft fairs throughout the area.
Mary was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, and one son, Larry Dan.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Harvey and Carol Newsom, Aubrey, Texas, Randy and Gail Newsom, Idabel, Karen and Mike Bailey, Richardson, Texas and Tangee and Randy Courtney, Carrollton, Texas, her 10 grandchildren, Carry Newsom, Lake Dallas, Texas, Kim Ditman, Aubrey, Texas, Bryan Newsom, Broken Bow, Chris Newsom, Idabel, Shan Booth, Richardson, Texas, Sheri Vecenni, Cisco community (Idabel), Chad Black, Alma, Ark., Travis Black, Little Elm, Texas, Drew Briley, Richardson, Texas, and Bryan Raulston, Richardson, Texas, her 16 great-grandchildren, her family in Christ at Forest Hill Baptist Church, and a host of other family and friends too numerous to mention.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 at Forest Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family of Mary Avis Newsom will receive family and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Jim Norwood Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, under the direction of Jim Norwood Funeral Home.
