Armand served the US during WWII as a Marine and served on Talagi, Guadalcanal and China. He was wounded in action on August 10, 1942, and was missing in action for three days behind enemy lines. Armand received the Purple Heart along with the Presidential Unit Citation for his courageous service to our country. Armand was also a past commander of the DAV.

Survived by his wife of almost 60 years; one son and one daughter; grandfather of three; six siblings.

Armand is preceded in death by his father and mother, Armand and Antonette; stepmother, Rose I Satorius Gradwohl; sister, Clara Sentenella; and brother, George Armand Gradwohl.
