Sophronia at age 21, lived with brother Willard D. Van Slyke and first wife Emily Martin in Medicine Lodge, Kansas until her marriage to Alphonso Shepler. She and Alphonso were married at Willard and Emily's house in Barber Co., Kansas.

Sophronia entered the Washington State Veteran's Home at Retsil, Washington in 1935 to be near her brother Monroe and sister Cora. She died there on 13 July 1943.
