Miss Winnie Gabrielson, retired missionary to India, died on March 24, 1949, in her home at Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born November 5, 1877, at Keokuk, Iowa. She sailed for India under the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1908, and was a regular Missionary in the Delhi Conference until 1948. Miss Gabrielson served in a unique threefold capacity: in the United States she organized the women in Swedish-speaking churches for missionary services; she organized the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society in Sweden in 1908; and served in India.

Miss Winnie Gabrielson, 71, Pastor, Dies

Miss Winnie Gabrielson, 71, of 610 So., 18th, formerly of missionary to India for many years, died Thursday night. She also was pastor of Wesley church for some time.
Miss Gabrielson was born Nov. 5, 1877, in Keokuk, Iowa. She was a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University and the Chicago training school.
During her long career in church work, Miss Gabrielson spent some time in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. On an early trip to Sweden, she organized 29 missionary societies, within a few weeks.
Miss Gabrielson did missionary work in India for almost 25 years. During her last few years there she was sponsored by the Scandinavian countries. When World War II broke out she became an orphan missionary and was adopted by the American Missions.
She was Pastor of Wesley Methodist church here twice. She served from 1930 to 1934, then for a while following her return from India a few years ago.
Miss Gabrielson's father, John A. Gabrielson, had been pastor of Wesley church before his daughter. Mr. Gabrielson was officiating at the time the church was built.
During her missionary work Miss Gabrielson traveled and spoke in 21 states.
Church officials have called her services a unique missionary work.
