Charles Thomas Eckles was born on Saturday; August 24, 1940, in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. He was the son of Homer S. and Mary L. (Nichols) Eckles. He attended Wetherbee Rural Schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1958. He continued his education at the University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa, and received an AA Degree at the Marshalltown Jr. College. On September 25, 1960, Charles was united in marriage to Sharon Jane McKibben at the First Friends Church in Marshalltown. He was employed at Fisher Controls as a technical writer and product engineer, retiring in 1995. After his retirement he was the sole proprietor of Marshall Relics from 1996 until 2000. Charles had a passion for history and collecting everything from old coins, postcards, stamps and other old relics. He loved to fish, and spending many hours tying fishing flies. He also enjoyed bird watching, agate hunting, and was very active in local, county, state, and national politics. He was also involved in many church activities, serving as a Deacon and on many boards and committees. Charles was a member of Marshall County Historical Society, Susie Sower Trust, Marshall County Landfill Commission and The Republican Party. Charles Thomas Eckles, age 69, passed away on Friday; April 16, 2010 at his residence in Marshalltown, Iowa while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife Sharon, daughters, Jane Marie (Dan) Cave of Charlotte, North Carolina, Julia Ann (Ronald) Ohrt of Marshalltown, Jocelyn Kaye (Jeffrey) Bruce of Ankeny; 9 grandchildren, and brother, Robert C. (Claire) Eckles of Port Orange, Florida. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday; April 20, 2010 at the Pursel Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial donations to honor Charles may be directed to Iowa River Hospice and First United Church of Christ, 204 S. 4th Ave, Marshalltown, Iowa 50158. Vogel Family Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.
