Margaret Irene Baumstimler Johnston, 87, Osawatomie, formerly of Walker, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Life Care Center, Osawatomie. She was born Dec. 22, 1918, in Walker to John Michael and Catherine (Scheck) Riedel. She attended St. Ann's Catholic School, Walker.


She married John Thomas Baumstimler on June 4, 1940, at Walker. He preceded her in death in 1963. She later married James S. Johnston in August 1984. He preceded her in death in 1999.


Survivors are a son, John Thomas Baumstimler, Virginia Beach, Va.; five daughters, Judi Shultz, Wichita Falls, Texas, Jane Couture, Fairfield, Maine, Jenice Evans, Blairstown, Mo., Nita Harter, Ottawa, and Jodi Alley, Eureka; two brothers, Frank Riedel, Walker, and Celly Riedel, Mission; three sisters, Aggie Leiker, Hays, Katie Windholtz, Quinter, and Josie Braun, Victoria; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Atchison, in March 2002.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Osawatomie; burial in Osawatomie Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main, Osawatomie, KS 66064.
