ACKERMAN, A. A. Ackerman, 95, died on March 31, 2010, of natural causes.
Predeceased in death by his son Robert, Mr. Ackerman is survived by his beloved wife, Carmen, daughter, Diane, and son, Richard, as well as, by his four granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Ackerman was born on September 21, 1914.
He was veteran of three wars. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and spent a number of years working as a civil service employee for the Panamanian Air Depot after the end of World War II.
He also worked at Edwards Air Force Base in the Mohave Desert. His longest military service was in the United States Navy where he served with distinction for over 21 years as an Aviation Store Keeper. During his long career in the Navy, he was stationed on land bases in the Philippines, Japan, Hawaii, Midway, and San Diego. He achieved the rank of Chief, which he held for the last seven years of this service in the Navy. Mr. Ackerman was an avid reader and loved listening to classical music and opera.
Born into an Eastern European family, he spoke both Polish and German. He learned to speak Spanish after many years living in Panama. He was extremely interested and knowledgeable about history and politics, especially that of Europe and Latin America. Mr. Ackerman was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his family. Services will be held Friday, April 9, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Roses at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA.
