15 April 1924 - Marion Malone died suddenly Monday afternoon at his home near Pleasant Hill and was buried here at the City Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, funeral services being conducted by Rev. Clayton of the Church of God. M.J. Malone was 83 years old and a son of one of Mt. Vernon's pioneer citizens, Spencer Malone; a brother of Mrs. J.S. Jackson of Mt. Vernon, Bob Malone of Plainview, and Rufe Malone of Oakland, Calif. He left a wife and two children, Mrs. Della Veasey of this county and Walter Malone of Mineola.

Husband of Betty (Bettie) Elizabeth Pullen. Father of Lilian Idella "Della" Veasey, Alice Malone Williams, and Walter Malone.
Veteran of the Confederate States Army. He told his granddaughter Blanche Veasey that his memories of the war were mainly the hardships of living off the land, hunger, and scavenging for food.
Parents were Spencer and Evelyn Malone, both of South Carolina, and both of whom died and were buried in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas.
After daughter Della's husband died at an early age, Marion James helped her raise her young family and was known to the children as "Pa."
Son Walter moved to Mineola, Texas, and is buried there. Daughter Della is buried in Providence Cemetery, Franklin County, Texas.
Another daughter, Alice, is known to exist and to have survived into adulthood. She is thought to have married twice, one a man named Wright, and another named Williams. Photos of her exist, identified by living persons. Location of her grave has not been determined.
Other unconfirmed children who may have been born to this marriage include a daughter Mattie, and a son named Eddie, according to information located on Ancestry.com from other researchers.
