Died at age 19yrs and 3 months.

He was with Company D of the 43rd Wisc Inf. and he was killed in Clarksville, Montgomery, Tennessee. He was originally buried there but his remains were later buried in the Nashville National Cemetery. They may have later been removed from there and shipped to Wisconsin for burial. The headstone in Rock Co., Wisconsin may only be a memorial stone for him, however. He joined the service on Sept 2, 1864 in Newark, Rock Co., Wisconsin and was killed Dec 31, 1864. Meridee D Dunn

Added information... My name is Scott Reed and I am one of many Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (#48353502) {SUVCW} who volunteer in identifying and remembering our Civil War Veterans. I was working on Gilbert who is recorded in Nashville National Cemetery. While researching him I located your memorial for him. I believe that the marker in Rock Co., Wisconsin is more than likely a Cenotaph for Gilbert. The reason for this is if the cemetery had moved him they would have placed someone else in his place.

I am not asking you to remove yours, however if you would indicate on yours that he has another memorial in Nashville under Find A Grave Memorial# 158923709

Thank You,
Scott
