Eva Margareta Margutt Derringer (Duringer, with 2 dots over the u. Spelled this way in Germany) was born in Hesse by Rhine, which later became part of Germany. I do not know the names of her parents. I hope to one day contact the local Lutheran church in her village to see if they have any more information on Eva and her family.

Eva and her husband, Georg Adam Duringer and 4 children ( Leonhard, Balthasar, Katharina and Philipp)immigrated from the town of Brietenbrunn, Germany to America in July 1858. They left Le Havre, France on the boat William Nelson bound for New York, where they arrived on July 6, They were following in the footsteps of Georg's brother Balthazar who had come to America in 1855.

The Duringers, like Balthasar went to live in Ohio, settling in Madison Township, Montgomery County.

At first, they lived and worked on Aaron Miller's farm and eventually bought their own farm in Madison. At first, Eva went by Eve (according to the Census of 1860) in America but, eventually went by Margaret. She and Georg Adam (he went by Adam in America) had 2 more American born sons, Adam (my great-grandfather) and Jacob.

Adam Derringer,Sr. and his brother, Balthasar enlisted with the Union army as privates in the 131st Ohio Infantry (National Guard) and served in the Civil War. Adam died young and left Margaret as a young widow with 6 children to raise on her own. I believe that she passed away in 1895. She is buried in Ft. McKinley Cemetery.
