After graduating College of the Ozarks about 1959, Bill took a job driving a jobber merchandise van that serviced country general stores with twist tobacco, Bull Durham, food items, and other goods they carried. In 1963, when Orbit Valve Company moved from Tulsa to Little Rock, they hired him as their Customer Service Manager and he excelled at it. About 1978, Orbit sent him to London, England to monitor the finances of their sales and manufacturing operation. He tried this job of herding cats for a few years, but finally returned to Little Rock about 1985 and became a broker for Solomon Smith Barney and again excelled - until he was diagnosed with cancer about 1999. He died in a Little Rock hospital. While on his death bed, he told his wife, Colleen HURST Williams Russell, that I (Grant Collar) was his best friend, and, after his death, she passed this on to me.

Bill had first married Darlene ______ and they were together for years but finally divorced (no children). Then Bill married Colleen, a friend from his high school days.
