A native of Laurens, S.C., Mr. Burton had been a resident of the Augusta area for most of his lifetime.
He had retired from the United States Marine Corps after 28 years of active duty. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea and the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Jack C. Fortune Post 205. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and his longtime membership and involvement of Silvercrest Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Walden Burton; their daughter, Ellen Center, and son-in-law, Ray; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.
