Timothy Sage was the son of David and Mary Wiley Sage. He was among the first generation of Sages to be born in America, his father a native of Wales. He and his brother Jonathan inherited their father's estate, Timothy receiving the homestead of eight and three fourth acres on Pleasant Street in Cromwell, Connecticut. He married Margaret Hurlbut on February 7, 1706. The estate eventually went to their son Captain and Deacon Solomon Sage.
