"Death between 1670 and 1675, for he was the surveyor of highways in 1670 at Eastham in 1670 but is not mentioned in the will of either his son John who died in 1675 or son James in 1678."

As for Mary Knowles who married Ephraim Doane there is nothing in the book to suggest two Marys or a Mercy. Maybe "Mercy" is in the Doane documents or some other record.
