Mary L. Prouty
Mary L. Hardesty was born in Porter County, Ind., Aug. 20, 1860. She united with the United Brethren Church in Indiana at about the age of 16. She came with her parents from Porter County in 1879, and settled near Shady Bend, Kan. On March 15, 1887, she was united in marriage to H.F. Prouty. They spent the next 25 years on a farm in the Battle Creek neighborhood, moving to Lincoln in December 1912.
She was active in the Harmony church during the years spent on the farm, being for a good part of the time a teacher in the Sunday School. During the years spent in Lincoln, she has been active in the work of the Woman’s Relief Corps, which work she did with pleasure.
Her last illness dates from January of this year, during which she was a patient sufferer and passed to her reward Thursday afternoon, May 16, 1929. She is survived by her husband, H.F. Prouty, and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Hardesty of Miltonvale, Kan., and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, May 20, conducted by T.H. Parrott of the M.E. Church. Interment was made in the Lincoln Cemetery.
