WHITE, Plympton A. - 2nd Lieutenant, Co. D, 83d PA Infantry. Enlisted & mustered in 26 Aug `61 at Edinboro, Erie Co., PA at age 24. Wounded in hand on 1 July `62 at Malvern Hill, VA. Transferred 1 Feb `63 to Signal Corps. Captured 17 June `63 at Point of Rocks, MD. Held captive at Libby Prison, Richmond, VA. Escaped 9 Feb `64 from Libby. Recaptured 13 Feb `64 after being run down by bloodhounds. Returned to Libby Prison. Transferred 7 May `64 to Macon, GA and from there to Charleston, SC. Died 13 Sept 1864 of Chronic Diarrhea at Charleston, SC. Marked as A. P. White.
