Obituary from Chattanooga Times Free Press
April 23, 2010

Richard Elliot "Dick" Schier, 60, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, April 21, 2010.

Dick attended the Lutheran School. He was a graduate of McCallie School in 1967 and patterned his life on its motto "Honor – Truth – Duty". He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1971. He was employed at UNUM Provident for 29 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of The Order of Charlemagne and the Tennessee Ornithological Society, Chattanooga Chapter. His passions were genealogy and music, especially his guitar. Dick was also an avid bird photographer.

A founding member and current Senior Warden of The Anglican Church of The Redeemer, Dick described himself as a "mere Christian" as defined by C.S. Lewis. His heart's desire was to please and serve The Lord Jesus Christ. Dick was an inspiration to all who knew him. He loved his family and friends, and he loved life and lived it to the fullest. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hollis Schier.

Survivors are his mother, Ramah Greene Schier; his wife, Sharon P. Schier; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and George Daoud, Suzanne and Kevin Happell; one son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Cherie Schier; three grandchildren, Rose and George Happell and Jayme Waller; and two cats, Tom Bob and Sugar Bear.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 1815 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403 with the Rev. Thomas Waddell and the Rev. Bill Sharp officiating.
