Son of Orville P. M. Layfield and Viola Mears Layfield.

Reginald, who resided in Dagsboro, Delaware, served as a Staff Sergeant, 524th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on September 9, 1942 in Camden, New Jersey. He was noted as being employed as an Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" over Hamburg, Germany while participating in an air raid during the War.

He had served in the Air Corps for ten months at the time of his death and was decorated with a unit Presidential Citation and the Purple Heart.
