George served in the civil war in J. t. Mitchell's Co. H. Rgiment 42nd. Brigade Stovall's Army of Tennessee calle "Walton Tigers".L. Henderson's Roster of Confederate Soldiers shows G. A. Knightas a private on March 4, 1862. He was later appointed sergeant and was struck by lightining at Atlanta, Georgia and seriously injured on Aug 19, 1864. He was captured at Kinston, North Carolina March 10, 1865 and released at Point Lookout, Md. on june 28, 1865.
