Harry Trousdale McBroom, Sr.
Sep. 22, 1889-Jan., 12, 1978
Born in Gallitin, TN, to Henry Clay McBroom and Annie Wood Halsey McBroom, he was a devout Presbyterian, dedicated to the service of Christ. He often spoke of his Scotch-Irish ancestry and its history as Presbyterians.Despite having only an 8th grade education, he was a excellent communicator who set up his own establishment as a realtor, assisted by his wife, Bessie. Together, while living in Mobile, AL, they successfully raised a tightly-knit family of four children: Harry, Jr, Virginia, Cherry and Sherwood, Sr. There were many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were showered by his affection. Because his first grandchild, Cherry Shannon Hunter, could not say "GP," rather saying "BP," the name "stuck," and was used by the entire family. (As an aside, because he was impatient and heavy on the car horn, the alternate name, "Beeps," became an alternate abbreviation.) Early on, he made it a practice to assemble the extended family as often as possible during reunions at rented or owned residences on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay. When son Sherwood and daughter-in-law Annie moved their family to S. Section Street in Fairhope, AL (shortly after the war), Harry and Bessie soon found residence on nearby Orange Street, located on Mobile Bay, thereby attracting family visitors-- especially for reunions during summers. With a Presbyterian Church nearby, he ensured his son Sherwood's family became members, given attainment of sufficient age. He often taught Bible Study class to younger members on Sunday, taking every opportunity to move outdoors in order to be closer to Nature. He extended the practice, going on walks with Sherwood's children, teaching them about Christ during visits to their home on Section Street. He was thrifty and cheerful, often greeting strangers with, "Top of the morning!" He taught grandchildren to drive. Though involved in many car accidents as a driver, himself, a mysterious, protective hand watched over him and others, because there were never any serious injuries. He survived his wife Bessie and died of natural causes at the age of 88 years. His remains were buried next to those of his wife in the family plot at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, AL.

(Respectfully submitted on this date, Oct. 16, 2023, by his loving grandson Richard McBroom.)
