Funeral services for Bruce Sumner Brashears, 78, of the Brashears Funeral Home of this city, were held in the Methodist church here Saturday morning, April 24, at 10 o'clock. Mr. Brashears, a lifetime resident of Madison county and this area died in the Madison County Hospital last Thursday following an illness of more than two years.

He was born near St. Paul March 23, 1887, the son of William R. Brashears and Mary Lucina Sumner Brashears. His ancestors settled the Brashears community between St. Paul and Combs in south Madison county. He was widely known, having been a merchant and businessman at Elkins for several years before moving to Huntsville in the early 1930's. He was in the mercantile business here for several years before becoming the owner and operator of the Brashears Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eva Tucker Brashears, of the home; three sons, Felix Brashears of this city; Jack Brashears of Springdale and Jim Brashears of Marshall, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Stanley of Lewisville, Ark. and Marian Brashears of Fayetteville; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Watts of Springdale; Miss Allie Brashears of Mountain Home, and Mrs. Dixie Kendrick of Huntsville; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Robert W. (Bob) Jones of Tulsa, Okla. and burial was in the cemetery here.

Pallbearers were: Governor Orval E. Faubus, A. C. Mowery, Curtis Shrum, James R. Scott, Price Fritts, Glyndon Johnson, Earl Parks and Herman Culwell.
