ARCADIA, Wis. - Bernard E. Abts, 85, of Arcadia died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, Arcadia.

He was born in Arcadia on Nov. 16, 1915, to Michael and Clara (Zeller) Abts. He married LaVina Hanson-Haines on Oct. 13, 1962, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia.

He is survived by his wife, LaVina of Arcadia; one daughter, of La Crosse, Wis.; and one son of Independence, Wis.; five grandchildren, four sisters, and one brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Natasha Abts, two brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in the Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 411 S. Washington St., Arcadia. The Rev. Patrick Umberger will officiate, with burial and
military rights to be provided by the Tickfer-Erickson Post 17 of Arcadia in the Calvary Cemetery in Arcadia.

Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the Killian Funeral Home, 113 S. Washington St., Arcadia, with a Knights of Columbus rosary to be held at 5:30 p.m. and a vigil service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends and family may call from 10:30 a.m. until departure for church on Wednesday at the funeral home.

The Killian Funeral Home of Arcadia and The Blaschke Funeral Homes of La Crosse are assisting the family with arrangements.
