John Paul Onzik, 82, of Lehman Township, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his wife and nine children. Born in Larksville, John was a son of the late Thomas and Anna Washko Onzik. He graduated from Larksville High School and attended electrical-technical college in New York for 2 years. John was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He worked as an electrical technician, retiring from Syntonic Technologies Inc. John has resided in Lehman Township for the past 52 years. He was an active member of the Harveys Lake and Dallas American Legion Posts and was also an active member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. Preceding John in death, in addition to his parents, were grandson Thomas Onzik and daughter-in-law Jane Salansky Onzik. Surviving are his wife, the former Antoinette Oberts; children John Paul Onzik Jr., Wisconsin; Thomas S. Onzik and wife Charlene, Shavertown; Edward Onzik and wife Mary Ann, Shavertown; Joseph Onzik and wife Catherine, Swoyersville; Ann Marie Coslett and husband Thomas, Lehman; David D. Onzik and companion Susan Jones, Muncy; Mary Jean Onzik and companion Robert Cook, Harveys Lake; Martin J. Onzik and wife Patricia, Philadelphia; and Paul T. Onzik and companion Mary Warner, Dallas; 15 grandchildren; sisters Anna Shields, Delaware; Eleanor Dragon, New York; and Florence Kiluk and husband Edward, New York; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake; the Rev. Daniel Toomey will officiate. Interment will be made in St. Ann's Cemetery, Lehman. Friends may call Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. The Onzik family extends a special thank you to John's live-in homecare provider, Lika, and also wishes to acknowledge the staff of Associated Family Home Care, Kingston, and Hospice Community Care, Kingston, for the wonderful care they provided John. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church, Pole 26, Harveys Lake, PA 18618, or to Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.
