MRS. JOANN CATHERINE YATES of 33 Indian PIace, died at Mercy hospital at 9:15 P. M. Tuesday after one week's illness following a stroke.
She was the mother of Walter Yates, of the Mauk and Yates funeral home in Juniata. Mrs. Yates was born Oct. 23, 1870, at Seybertown, Pa., a daughter of Reuben and Mary (Reynolds) Seybert. She was the widow of James Yates who died July 24, 1930. Surviving are the following children: Walter of Altoona, Hobie H. of New Kensington, Mrs. Jessie Whitaker of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Glenn Mast of Butler, Mrs. Robert Hare of Detroit, Mrs. Dr. Frank M. Cummings of Erie; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Seybert of Indianapolis, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. Eva Flemming of Mahoney, Pa.
Mrs. Yates was a member of the First Methodist church of Juniata and of the Progressive Bible class of that church and of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a member, also, of the Order of the Eastern Star of Kittanning, Pa., and of the Jordan White Shrine of Altoona.
Friends will be received at the late home after 6 P. M. Wednesday until 10 A. M. Friday and thereafter at the First Methodist church in Juniata.
