Fatal Accident:

Montrose Man Hurt Fatally

Effingham, July 9 (Staff)

Tony Vaughn, owner of the Vaughn grain elevator at Montrose, died at 2 p.m. yesterday in St. Anthony's hospital here of internal injuries received Saturday when pinned between a railroad box car and a farm tractor.

Vaughn had been pulling the box car with the tractor and was hurt while attempting to unfasten a chain which connected the vehicles.  The box car moved forward to press him against the tractor.

At first it was thought that he received only bruises, but Wednesday he was admitted to the hospital, and was to have undergone an operation tonight.

Rites Set for Montrose Man Injured Fatally

Effingham, July 9 (Staff)

Funeral services for Tony Vaughn, 61, owner of the Vaughn grain elevator at Montrose who was injured fatally when pinned between a railroad boxcar and a farm tractor, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Montrose high school gymnasium with burial in Montrose cemetery.

His injuries were believed minor at the time of the accident Saturday but he was admitted to St. Anthony's hospital, Effingham, Wednesday and died Thursday afternoon.  He had been pulling the boxcar with the tractor and was injured while attempting to unfasten a chain connecting them.

He leaves his wife Dessie and his stepmother Mrs. Zetta Vaughn.
