Doris B. Garland, 91, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away on April 18, 2010, at Centerpoint Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Meyers Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 301 S.W. Woods Chapel Road, Blue Springs, Mo. Doris was born on January 16, 1919, in Patterson, Iowa, the daughter of Dennie and Nell (Blosser) Pace. She was united in marriage to Leslie Garland on May 4, 1943; he preceded her in death in 2002. Doris worked for many years as a teller at Blue Springs Bank. She was a very faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs. Mom dedicated her life to her family. Not only was she a great role model, but she was a compassionate and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Mom's joy for life touched all who knew her. She only treasured one thing in her life, and that was people. She was engaging and always had a smile on her face, even at the end. Mom loved to have fun; she was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan, dressing in red on Sundays. She enjoyed golf and dominoes. She played basketball in high school and almost always beat her two sons at a game of "21" shooting baskets on the driveway. Mom never turned down an opportunity to watch her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids play sports or participate in an activity. We'll miss her more than she could ever imagine. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Doris leaves behind her children, Michael Garland and wife Janet of Blue Springs, Mo., Dan Garland and wife Marla of Blue Springs, Mo., Nancy Miller and husband Terry of Richland, Wash.; grandchildren Holly and Scott St. Clair and their children Sadie, Marissa and Rayce; Jennifer and Scott Kroening and their children Brady, Faith and Paige; Alisa and Kevin Bruni and their children Jack and Cole; Jim Garland and his daughter Katelyn; Brent and Lorrine Garland and their children Tyler, Kailyn and Bailey; Melissa Garland and Colin Riordan; Staci Garland and Weston Bennett and their daughter Keira; Jenna and Scott Schulz and their children Anthony, Josh and Brittaney; Ashley and Rick Basinger and their children Makayla, Marrisa and Boston; Sgt. Blake Richardson and Ashley Maybee. (Arr.: Meyers Funeral Chapel; condolences and memories of Doris may be shared with the family online at www.meyersfuneralchapel.com) Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W.
