Robert F. Bender, Jr. was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 19, 1943, to Robert, Sr. and Elizabeth Ramsey Bender. Bob was a graduate of La Jolla High School and Stanford University. He was a longtime partner and very successful salesperson for Stone & Youngberg, municipal bond firm.
Bob and his wife Gabrielle "Gay" raised four children: Coleen (Jim) Leitch of Alpharetta, Georgia, Laura (Shawn) La Fave of Cumming, Georgia, William Jason (Melissa) Bender of Denver, Colorado, and Anne (John) Massih of Trumbull, Connecticut. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Dunn of Omaha, and brother, William Bender of Coronado, California, as well as four grandchildren: Chelsea, Hanna, Morgan and Patrick.
Bob spent most of his youth in Omaha and as an adult returned nearly every summer to enjoy the beauty of Lake Okoboji, Iowa.
As a longtime resident of La Jolla, Bob enjoyed his time at the La Jolla Country Club, golfing with his son and friends and reading a good book. Bob passed away on April 19, 2010, in Omaha after a long illness.
