Jack O. Rightsell, 79, of Michigan City,passes away Monday, April 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. at his home in Michigan City, IN.

The service will be held Friday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the service on Friday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.

He was born March 28, 1931 in Brazil, Ind., to Lewis and Leone (Flack) Rightsell, both of whom preceded him in death.

He married Donna J. Dolezal, who died July 7, 2009. Surviving are his children, Jacci (Mike) Hanna of Lafayette, Ind., Bill (Bonnie) Rightsell, Valparaiso, Sue (Steve) Jordan and Jim Rightsell, both of Andrews, N.C., Glenn (Gigi) Rightsell of Linden, Ind., Larry (BeBe) Rightsell, Knoxville, Tenn., Cathy Rightsell, Duluth, Ga., Jessica Rightsell, Florissant, Mo., Bruce Long of Michigan City and Jamie (Charlie) Lawrence of South Bend; 23 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sister, JoAnn Brooks of Dallas, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and former wife, Mary Anne Rightsell of Andrews, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Rightsell.

He graduated from Riley High School, South Bend, class of '49 where he lettered in football, track and baseball. Jack had been a guard at Indiana State Prison for 30 years and was also self-employed as a contractor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Jack was known to many as a strong and hard working man. He shared his skills with all he knew. He worked with all his family and was so proud of all their accomplishments. His sense of humor was second to none. His arms opened to anyone who came into his life. Back in the day he cleared the beach paths in the Sheridan Beach area. He also enjoyed his "man toys". He was a great dancer to all kinds of music and was a sharp dresser. He was a loving man that meant so much to his family and friends.
