1st Lieut Byron Mills Bennett was navigator on a B-17, Stupin Tacket. Member of the 91st Bomb Group (323 Squadron) stationed at Bassingbourne, England. He was one of the first to join the Army Air Corps.

His squadron received the Distingushed Unit Citation award; and were noted for saving the idea of daylight bombing, as the allies only bombed by night. Except for his loss; the mission was an acclaimed success although the unit was not awarded until well after the war on the grounds that it was not desirable for planes to penetrate so deeply into enemy territory.
